Daycare bill

Submitted by sdchargers_63 on Fri, 06/04/2010 - 18:59

(Hi everyone!! Haven't been on the Forum in a while. LOTS going on!!) To make a long story short, I'm suppose to register for classes, for Fall semester, at a local University. I found out I have an old daycare bill (11 years old) that is 'outstanding', at the University. It was in BOTH mine and ex husband's (huubby, at the time) name. Somehow it was transfered in JUST my name. My ex told me, some years ago, it was paid off...obviously not. It's not even on my credit. How can the University hold a bill, that old, aqainst me?

my mortgage has exceeded the current value of my home and i don't know how to pay it off as i had been laid off and have just a few days ago found a new job. my spouse is going through some medical treatment which is taking a lot of our hard earned money. I was thinking of a short sale but what happens to the remaining debt, is there a way i can get away without paying it off? are there tax issues here? I've heard of the HAFA, what's the criteria to qualify and what's the maximum time they'll give me just to payoff the mortagage?? I'm in sanjose, california

Help with wording on a Response to Summons

Submitted by oravits on Thu, 05/20/2010 - 17:30

Greetings, I found an example of a response to a summons and I am typing it up. I admit I owe the debts but I don't know what to say on the response. I have a meeting with an attorney scheduled to discuss bankruptcy and everything but I don't know what to say on the response. Do I admit to the debt? Do I disagree? Do I admit and then say "but I'm filing bankruptcy"? Please help! Thanks! ~Kevin

How many times can a CA default judgement be renewed?

Submitted by hc.macdonald on Wed, 05/12/2010 - 02:27

21 years ago law firm that filed the papers in the wrong court. 19 years ago they got a default judgement against us because we were never informed of the hearing. They keep renewing it every 6 years. I've recently been told they can keep doing this forever and that because of the judgement the Statute of Limitations does not apply.

Improving credit score

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sat, 05/08/2010 - 05:44

I want to improve my credit score and I want to do it myself because it's not possible for me to give money to credit counseling companies. Thus, I want to do it as economically as possible. Where is the best place to get a free credit report. I have a bankruptcy from 5 years ago and I am sure there are some inaccuracies as well.

Thanks in advance

Old debt in collections

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sat, 05/08/2010 - 05:28

Hi everyone,

I received a notification from a collection agency on a 14-year old medical bill last week. I have not been contacted about this debt for at least 10 years. I live in Ohio, and the SOL for Ohio is 6 years for open accounts. So would it be appropriate for me to send a letter to them for disputing this debt. I have never tried to dispute anything ever. However, with a bill this old I feel I do have rights according to the FDCPA.

Should I pay or save

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sat, 05/08/2010 - 05:04

Want to buy a land and build home on it. The only debt we have is our home mortgage on our present home. We also have about $8000 in credit card debt.

Now we want to buy the land first, and then save some money. Then we would like to get the construction loan to begin building the house. But my question is should we pay off the credit card deb first or would it be better to save money for a down payment for the construction? What should I do?

Is this a good deal and how will it effect my credit?

Well, between losing my job 8 months ago and now facing a divorce after 17 years I'm backed into a corner with having little money and a few credit card bills I'm one month late on. I have had two card companies call me and offer to put me on a lifetime program of 0% interest and payments that are half of what I was paying.

Since I have never been late on making a payment in my life, I'm not sure if I should accept the program but realize I don't have enough money at the moment to keep the accounts open and then have to pay what I was paying.
