How should I get rid of debt and improve credit

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 08/06/2010 - 03:44

Hello everyone,

I have gotten myself into a bit of debt over the past few years but I really want to focus on getting rid of it and managing my money . I have been making minimum payments but I know that clearly is not wise. Below are the details:

Loans:

$618.52/mo. at 11.99% with 32 months left. This is what takes up a bulk of my pay. Whatever I can do to lower this would be very helpful.
Student loan: $57.91 at 4.75%

Credit Cards:

We just applied for a HUD loan and have a credit score of 614. The agent sent us to a debt consumer counseling service to boost our score. I am very hesistant on agreeing to pay off these old debts. I can get a 2300 dollar judgmant to show as paid, since i have the receipt of paying it two years ago. Another debt will automatically drop off in 3 months. That leaves only six negatives left and four of those are charged off. Do I really need to agree to pay of these debts, I actually already live off a tight budget with no room for errors.

Question about Credit Scores and FICO

Submitted by Katrina on Thu, 07/22/2010 - 13:22

Has anyone pulled their credit report and score from all three bureaus AND MyFICO at the same time?

Did your FICO scores match your credit scores from the matching bureau or were they 'off'?

If they were off, how much did they differ?

What about that Vantage Score, any one every pull this one?

Just curious to see how they all add up. I know way back when, I did and the scores from the bureaus were 20+ points lower than my actual FICO scores, but I'm not sure with all the changes if this is the case any longer.

Credit Union Credit Rebuider Programs

I stumbled across a Credit Union's site the other day offering a credit re-builder program. For anyone trying to rebuild their credit this seems like a great option. The only problem is that most credit unions are local and you (or a family member) have to be a member.

Not all are offering programs like this though. When searching local credit unions I found that if the bank offers a secured credit card, there was a 50/50 shot of offering secured personal loans, some of them have turned their package into a re-builder program.

Secured Business Credit Cards?

Submitted by Katrina on Tue, 07/20/2010 - 12:12

Does anyone know of any other Secured Business Credit Card programs like CSI Global MasterCard? (Which we just applied for and it is taking twice as long as expected.)

BOA and Wells Fargo have both suspended their secured business credit cards. But there must be other cards out there that report to D&B on the business EIN and not on your personal credit. Anyone know of any?

Need some help

Me and my fiance are trying to purchase a house, he is 28 points away from being able to get a mortgage he is currently at 572. I have pulled his credit report and he doesn't remember some of the debts back in 2005-2006. What should be the first step I should take? Debt validation letters to all collectors? What if they don't respond within the 30 days? Do I then send a letter of dispute to the credit companies stating they didn't validate the credit and I wish for it to be removed? Once they validate it can I send a settlement offer 30% of the debt?

Deleted Charge-Off... Now What?

Submitted by jenaywins on Tue, 06/15/2010 - 15:58

Hello everyone, and thank you in advance for your responses. :D

I had a charge-off deleted from my Experian report just literally yesterday as part of my battle to clean up my credit. I am looking to purchase a house this year and am dilligently paying things off for deletion, etc. My question is... How much will a deleted charge-off raise my credit score, and when should I see the results?

Again, many thanks for your responses.
