Predatory Lenders/Disabled and Low Income People

Submitted by goodnatured on Sun, 11/04/2007 - 14:41

Has anyone seen a trend in predatory lenders getting disabled folks and others with low income involved in refinancing their homes at a varible rate? The rate then increases to where they can't afford it and they end up losing their homes, some of these homes have been in their families for years. I have a few friends that are in this situation now and I am really annoyed by it.

CitiBank sent me a credit card....

Submitted by raybbr on Mon, 10/29/2007 - 22:30

I received a cc from CitiBank. It had that "Call us to activate" sticker on it. That was about three weeks ago. I never called and was holding onto to it to see what I would do.

I got a letter from Chase Manhattan who has me on a credit alert due to the fact that they let my info out last year. I signed up at True Credit and checked my credit report.

It doesn't say that it's CitiBank but it shows up as a new account.
My question is this: Should I activate it or cancel it? Will cancelling it affect my credit score?

715 ZOMG!!!11!!!1!!!!!

Woot!

Just pulled a myfico: EX score at 715!
14 Months ago, it was in the 530 range!

All but one derogatory remark has dropped off (May 08 for the last one)
Paid down a lot of debt

All I need to do is try to have a PIF/Closed account in good standing removed. This is from a consumer finance company; it is a sign of less than ideal credit. They offer loans for higher interest rates (=risk), taking one of these type of loans will drop your score--but I don't know how by how much.

Finally, things in life are starting to really turn around!

Going forward, spam posts will be deleted in their entirety, as will any replies. They serve only to clog up the board, even if replies are well intentioned.

Some automated spam programs attempt to post links, but the links themselves are deactivated using the latest and greatest spam-hammer technology available to the site admins. This is why some posts have no link, although they may read to all of us as harmless, if not confusing.

I talked to my parents today. They told me that their house is STILL there...wasn't touched by the fire!! Neither was my sister's house!! What a miracle!!

Spam & 3rd party collections

Lots of spam on the boards today.

I hope that anyone coming across a certain spammer (whose posts I have already deleted) does not fall victim to his/her scam. Said spammer had posted 3 or 4 times, claiming in essence, that sale of a debt to a third party collector renders the debt void, unless a debtor renews the agreement by making a payment.
