Most benefits going to plastic

The state of Pennsylvania has decided that it will no longer process paper checks for unemployment purposes, you will now be issued a mac type card, so direct deposit is required.

Alot of folks have trouble with this, they don't want the bank account, nor do they want the mac card. I think it should be a choice. we have a few that still don't have the touch tone phone so they come to our agency to use the phone. I don't know how they will function with this card and bank account issue.

Work Programs for Mature Workers

Recently I had a client who decided that she wanted to go back to work, she is over 55 and suffered 2 major heartaches, she is on disability. She needs the medical coverage that goes with SSD so she could not take a job that would not provide benefits.

I got her involved in a program for people over 55, it is forgiving in some incomes. It will allow her to work 20 hours a week at $7.15 an hour without affecting her SSD or her medical coverage.

Ok, I read somewhere that this will raise your credit score...i put this in this forum because it's sort of miscellaneous. I read that say you deposit $500 in a savings account then take out a loan for the same amount, $500 that is borrowed against the principal in your savings and go ahead and deposit that money in the savings account. Make arrangements with your bank to have your loan repayment amount directly taken out of your savings account and forget about the original $500 in there...not only do you earn interest, you're helping your credit score raise some points.

Gas & Fuel, UGGGGG

Ok guys and gals, Gas just jumped another 12 cents a gallon overnight here, I am not happy about that. Heating oil took a hit too, seems like just when you get a few cents ahead, something you can't control comes along and takes it. So, another list.

How do you conserve heating cost and on gas for your travel?

T: I bought a smaller vehicle with a smaller engine, have saved a ton there.
H: I roofed my porches and put heavy plastic around them this year to keep the draft out.

Christmas Budget

With the holidays coming I thought it would be a good idea to discuss how we budget for the holidays so that we don't over extend ourselves. I am asking that you add your suggestions of things that you do to make it through the holidays and not be finacially strapped because you over did it. It is one time a year, many people go overboard and pay for it all year long. Here is a list of things that I do.
