Should i continue with debt management company

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 04/16/2010 - 04:55

We are currently enrolled in a debt management program. However, I have read that a debt management program may be just as bad as bankruptcy !!! It seems that i can do what they do on my own by negotiating with the creditors on my own. Would that be a better option or should I just stick with the debt management company? My debt management company charges me 50.00 per month for handling my debt.

Looking for advice

Hi, I'm looking for some expert advice & options.

i have 3 credit cards from CHASE went to CA worth about $30,000.
I still do not know if CA bought the account from CHASE. (how do i find this out?)

1 credit card still under OC - CITIBANK debt is about $12,000 but they want to settle at $3,000.

I have a house (has mortgage payment) living with my family, and I don't want to lose my house because of the credit card debt.

My family can help out to settle Citi for $3,000. If I can get $3000, should I settle this amount right away?

Whats up guys,

I just settled a pretty big debt (8k), for about half price with a firm called John C. Bonewicz

I got a signed letter from them saying that the debt is clear now, I will get a "zero balance" letter in about 30 days, according to them.

Did I follow the right procedure, is there anything else I can do to make sure everything goes well and I'm not taken advantage of?

Thanks

Who are these people???

Got several calls on my machine from a guy with a very thick accent, says his name is mike nelson. Phone numbers are 212-500-0839 (get a machine on this one) and 951-271-7548, this one they hung up on me three times after they found out that I have an attorney. They would not give me their name or the reason for their call.

The messages that they left did not indicate what the calls are about either, the only thing I got out of them was that they are a back door for some lending company. I have no clue, I do not owe anything, so I don't know what this is about.

Hello. There are so many helpful people here I just had to add my experience.

I was applying for a job that did a credit check and they turned me down because of an outstanding issue with Unifund.

The details:
-I opened a Citi Visa card in NJ in the year 2000 or 2001 (not exactly sure)

-I moved to Florida the end of 2001

-Stopped paying the Visa bill in January of 2005

-I have never taken a phone call or responded to any correspondence from a debt collector.
