Lifelock provides identity theft protection which prevents your identity from being stolen. Lifelock is mostly used by people who are victims of identity theft or if you want to prevent yourself from identity theft. Once you become a member of lifelock, fraud alerts are requested on your behalf to the three major credit reporting agencies and once fraud alert services are established, the creditors need to verify your identity before opening any new credit accounts or issuing any new credit cards.

I've never use it, but, I've seen ads on TV about it. I had my wallet stolen, about 4 to 5 years ago, and I put an Alert on my credit myself. I know the Alert stayed on my credit for 1 year. I remember the ad, about Lifelock, saying there is a monthly fee to the 'program'. It SOUNDS good anyway. You might want to see if you can find anything about it on the Web.

Even if your credit is 'not perfect', you'll be surprised WHAT people can do and HOW they do it, to steal identities. I've read alot on Identity Theft and it's really scary. I don't know how some people can live with themselves, trying to 'be somoene else' ( lack of a better word).

But.........................when somoene DOES do such a thing, it DOES come back to haunt them eventually.

Actually, I think that identity theft mostly occurs when we sign in for free services with the credit repair agencies. This usually happens while we share our personal information; social security number, address, names etc for verification. Not all companies are fraud. Companies who take advantage of these information and use it for their benefit are mostly frauds. Always try to avoid these companies.

Yes, identity theft can also occur when your wallet gets stolen with your credit cards and identification cards. Moreover, someone can get access to your identity by stealing utility bills, bank statement or tax information from your mail box.

That is a pretty good idea, getting rid of any mail by shredding or burning it, no chance of anyone using it for identity theft that way.

I've had lifelock for a couple months now. They requested free credit reports for me and placed alerts. I always get tips on how to protect my identity now through email. If my identity gets stolen somehow, then lifelock will pay me and repair everything. The way things are going in these last few years makes me not mind paying a couple a couple dollars for it to be safe. Everyone in my home has it.

Like everything else, there are ups and downs to it. I have not felt the effects of the downs yet, other than paying for the service and not seeing how the service is helping me, other than knowing my identity is safe.

I heard the creator of LifeLock got his identity stolen...I dont trust it.

I too think that going for identity theft protection is a good idea . Again since you are benefited from the services of lifelock, and since they also offer free credit repair services if your identity is stolen after your registration with them I too think that you should continue with their service. But the thing is that - Is there any written documents where the condition that they will provide you with free credit repair service and pay you in case your identity is stolen, is mentioned. If not get it written from them.

These days everyone needs protection. It is amazing how many people now stael identities. I think the more the talk about something on TV the more scammers that sit back and say "hey I never thought of that" therefore making it happen even more. I watched a show where a lady had her identity stolen. She said her life has never been the same and it is always coming back to haunt her. Maybe identity protection these days is as important as say car, life and auto insurance.

and to think, most of this started as someone using anothers ID for a night on the town.

If you think about it, it all starts with a young girl using her big sister's ID to get in a club.

These theives just take it up a bigger notch, they use your credit to get loans, credit cards and etc for thier own benefit in turn destroying the credit of the unsuspecting victim.

I truly would not want to be an identidty theft victim. they had a true story about this on TV and this kind of thing wrecks a persons life for such a long time. I can imagine it being a full time job trying to straighten everything up but what choice are ya left with?

I just seen a case on A&E about an identity theive, thing is he actually committed a murder during his riegn of terror. He had stolen identities of people that were trying to help him out.

the worst part (besides the murder) he was working and his wage information was being reported to the irs, the irs was then penalizing the victim for owed taxes. It was pretty obvious that the victim could not be doing both jobs, they were on two different parts of the country. Eventually, after paying the irs penalties for over 11 years the victim had open heart surgery and sometime on his hands, he got the FBI and federal marshall's office involved, it was eventually sorted out and the guy did get convicted of the murder and the identity theft but it took these people years to get it all straightened out.

I think the thing that irritated me the most was what this man went through with the irs, they are one of the most powerful entities in the united states and they did not care to even listened to the victim and year after year he paid thousands in taxes that he did not owe. It never did say if he got any of his money back or not. They had the power to investigate this early on when he called the first year, but chose to bill him and make him pay and in the meantime a murderer was on the streets under another identity.

It was a pretty good show they did on this jerk, he ended up killing a guy because he hit on him and apparently when he was younger he was in jail and was sexually assaulted by some guys, when this one hit on him, it set him off. Other than that he was just a common theif.

That story is outrageous. I watch that TV program alot and sorry I missed that one. Gosh where does this identity crisis end?

Insane. We just went through something kind of similiar at Sears. We were trying to make a purchase and the sales agent thought we were the Mac Gregors who owed a huge past due balance. I told them that we ended up with their old phone number and that they are from are area but we were not them. That was fine. I asked them if they could take that number from their system so it wasn't associated with us and they said they could not do that. It was the Mac Gregors last known number and that they would have to come in and change it. I didn't even bother crabbing about it. I knew it wouldn't get me anywhere. It isn't the same as stolen identity but the harassment is.

Thats what I thought. It really is dumb to use a phone number as verification but I see this often. Even at the auto parts store the first thing they ask for is your phone number. I see a few names on the screen and they always ask next for your name. and then click on it. Think it would be better done by the name system than the other way around. go figure.

that is almost looking up the name john smith, how many results are you going to get doing that?

LOL. that says it all. I always seem to run into that problem. Its like why do they over use a name..

Exactly what I would have said GN. Sometimes I can see how people can ghet confused, there is just so much to learn when it comes to protecting your credit these days. I would def. advice the opt out. At least someone wouldn't get a hold of an app and start sending for cards in your name. I did it and think it was worth the effort.

This is true. I think we probaly help it along cause noone ever stays on the same subject. sometimes a whole new post is started in an old one.

Lifelock uses people's ignorance. Whatever they do, anyone can do for free. One of the owners had his idendity stolen, another has very questionable financial past.

I would not recommend to use this service.

Thats quite common when you are new. I always forgot to sign in. I did google lifelock and doesn't seem like they are all they are cracked up to be.

It will and in time you will see things start to change. I know in the beggining it is really frustrating but if you keep this card in good satnding you will see other doors opening up.

You can do it GN. I have never seen someone try as hard as you have to rebuild the credit they lost. Now go buy yourself something.
