a lien was placed on my home for unpaid homeowners association dues. i am in the process of repayment. the HOA says they will remove the lien when paid in full but they do not know anything about removing it from my credit record. The information i've found states the party that placed the lien has the ability to remove it from my credit report. Is this so? If that is the case, what are the steps? Thanks!

I would think that if they write a letter stating that they want them removed and the lein has been satified that it should be removed at that time.

Goodnatured is correct. If your HOA gives you a letter stating that the listing should be removed from your CR you can send it in to get it removed. The CRAs will contact the HOA to make sure it is legit once they recieve it.

Hi powell
You may ask HOA to give you a written copy certifying that after payment of your lien in full, the listing may be removed from the credit report. If they provide you with such a document, I think that it would not be difficult at all to get the listing removed from the report. You may talk with the HOA regarding this.

I have never tried to have a judgement removed, but I know that any other type of account like past due credit cards or charged off accounts are almost impossible to have them removed, paid or not.

I hope that you can get it removed, hopefully it will be easier to remove the judgement than the charged off accounts. goodluck with this.

I know the feeling gn. So much work and you wish they would just remove it. Good luck to the OP.

Yes, this is absolutely right. The HOA has the ability to remove it when you will make full payment. You can request the HOA to issue you a letter via certified mail stating that the account has been “Paid-in-full”. After that, you can contact with the credit-reporting agency and request them to remove that negative item from your credit report. You can also enclose the relevant document with the letter. You may also request the credit-reporting agency to update your account status as “Paid-in-full”.
