I dont know about this debt and the funny part is

If you have their contact information go ahead and send them a debt validation letter. You must know who you are in debt with. :)

I believe this is an AT&T account (possibly an account from a company AT&T bought out). Either Palisades Collection has illegally re-aged the account, or it is a case of ID fraud.

How do you come to believe that its AT&T? Are they somehow related to Palisades? Do their collection go to Palisades?

Yes, many references on the debt forums between the two, plus the "ATT" in the account number.

I also got 2 bad reports from Palisades on my Experian report and one on TransUnion. I don't know what this is!!! I don't owe anyone and they have key derogatory reports right up until this month for my AT&T bill and my bill is paid right up to date. They even have an entry for this month, 03/08.....I can't believe this. My credit score is WAY DOWN and this is the only derogatory report on there.
What can a girl do?? I see there is some debt validation letter, but what do I write in that letter?? Or is there a form for such a letter somewhere online??
HELP!!!!

DITTO! I have two collection reports from Palisades on my Experian report. I'm in the same boat. Can anyone provide advice on what to do? I tried calling but it's all automated. I also have false addresses that I never lived at.

Deborah-

Have you tried calling AT&T? Seems like it is a mistake on their part. I would first call them and see what they say, if your bill is up to date and in your name, i cant see how it would be valid. If you have somthing in collection for past dept in AT&T they would have turned off your phone a long time ago. If unsuccsesful try to contact CA. Lets face it a CA is not generaly friendly and probley just gunna try to fight you for the money is says you owe. Then I would send a letter. Just dont back down from them or give in if you are sure of what you have said.

Im not a pro at this like some of these guys, but their is alot of helpful info around, you would be surprised as to what you can learn by reading others post.

Please update, would like to here what/how it turns out.

First thing that you can do Deborah and kw898, is write a dispute letter to the CRAs. From your current report, make copies of them and circle all the mistakes. List the discrepancies in the letter and attach the copy of the report with it. If you have proof that the items are incorrect (in kw898's case you can attach the bills and payment receipts if you have it with you) attach the copies of the proof with the letter and send it to the bureaus. They must investigate into the matter within 30 days of receipt of your letter. Make sure you send certified copies with return receipt requested.

LAura gives good advise here and it sounds like the best starting point to get this matter cleared. Good luck.

yea i found one on my report it shows that the account was opened on dec 07. The problem with that ive been and still am deloyed since aug of 07. So i dont know how i opened an account with whichever company it may have been with.

Hi bud
I think you should send a dispute letter to the CRAs asking them the details of the credit account that is shown in your credit report.

Call the company, and speak to the fraud department.
File a report with the FTC.
File a police report (if you can do so by email/fax/phone)...you may need to provide copies to the creditors and CRAs.

Re: Acct #1234XXXXX

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is being sent to you in response to a claim filed in my credit report in 3/2004. Be advised that this is not a refusal to pay, but a notice sent pursuant to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, 15 USC 1692g Sec. 809 (b) that your claim is disputed and validation is requested.

This is NOT a request for “verification” or proof of my mailing address, but a request for VALIDATION made pursuant to the above named Title and Section. I respectfully request that your offices provide me with competent evidence that I have any legal obligation to pay you.

Please provide me with the following:

What the money you say I owe is for;
Explain and show me how you calculated what you say I owe;
Provide me with copies of any papers that show I agreed to pay what you say I owe;
Provide a verification or copy of any judgment if applicable;
Identify the original creditor;
Prove the Statute of Limitations has not expired on this account
Show me that you are licensed to collect in my state
Provide me with your license numbers and Registered Agent

At this time I will also inform you that if your offices have reported invalidated information to any of the 3 major Credit Bureau’s (Equifax, Experian or TransUnion) this action might constitute fraud under both Federal and State Laws. Due to this fact, if any negative mark is found on any of my credit reports by your company or the company that you represent I will not hesitate in bringing legal action against you for the following:

Violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act
Violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
Defamation of Character
If your offices are able to provide the proper documentation as requested in the following Declaration, I will require at least 30 days to investigate this information and during such time all collection activity must cease and desist.

Also during this validation period, if any action is taken which could be considered detrimental to any of my credit reports, I will consult with my legal counsel for suit. This includes any listing any information to a credit reporting repository that could be inaccurate or invalidated or verifying an account as accurate when in fact there is no provided proof that it is.

If your offices fail to respond to this validation request within 30 days from the date of your receipt, all references to this account must be deleted and completely removed from my credit file and a copy of such deletion request shall be sent to me immediately.

I would also like to request, in writing, that no telephone contact be made by your offices to my home or to my place of employment. If your offices attempt telephone communication with me, including but not limited to computer generated calls and calls or correspondence sent to or with any third parties, it will be considered harassment and I will have no choice but to file suit. All future communications with me MUST be done in writing and sent to the address noted in this letter by USPS.

It would be advisable that you assure that your records are in order before I am forced to take legal action. This is an attempt to correct your records, any information obtained shall be used for that purpose.

Best Regards,

i just ran my credit report and found a charge from pallisades collections on there as well.

Apparently when AT&T switched to Cingular they sold their debt collections to this Palisades company.

I searched for the Palisade collections company on Google and found a number, was redirected to another phone number and I left a message with someone. This was today so i'm waiting to see what happens.

Phone number is: 1866-877-0008 but you will be directed to call 1800-425-0006.
The first thing you hear when you call the 866 number is "If you are calling regarding your AT&T account please call 1800-425-0006."

Another thing is that Palisades Collection Company was sold to NCL another debt collections agency which is why the new phone number.

My plan is to try to deal with the collection company and then possibly legal action if they are unwilling to fix my credit report.

Hope this helps

Sometimes it is really hard to find a number. Especially when they go by different names.

I also had an account in good standing with AT&T when they sent me to collections for another account that wasn't mine. Send a debt validation letter to Palisades or call them for more information at 1-866-230-8094. If the account is not yours, the first thing you should do is call AT&T. It took a really long time but I finally got AT&T to take care of their error (8 months and over 30 phone calls later). Good luck. Don't let this stuff hang out on your credit report!

Great job and persistance there sabrina, it just sucks that it took that long and that much of your time.

Thu, 08/07/2008 - 01:36 Permalink

Believe me Sabrina I really know where you are coming from on this one. I always get collection calls for accounts that aren't mine. I pretty muxh got rid of most of them by threatening to sue them for harassment. I told them with the number of calls I get a day from different collectors I wouldn't need a job cause I would just let them pay me for aggravation they were causing. Anyway Great job.

Thu, 08/07/2008 - 12:20 Permalink

It is bad enough getting your own collection calls for someone's delinquencies, I feel for you.

Fri, 08/08/2008 - 02:38 Permalink

Pretty much got rid of most of them. I found not answering the phone when unknown name or privat caller comes up did more than trying to explain it isn't me. Hubby and I ws out riding today and I happened to see their names on a mailbox on the road these companies say there from. Seems like a really nice place.
I can just imagine changing my number and someone in the area getting my collection calls. That would be a bit embarassing if you knew the people.

Sat, 08/09/2008 - 00:25 Permalink

Do you know the person? I think the phone company is partially responsible here, they should have changed the number for nothing when you first got the calls and complained to them about it.

Sat, 08/09/2008 - 11:08 Permalink

No I do not know them just of them. I believe they are responsible too,the phine company,. I had soo much hassle getting this phone in here to begin with. There past due phone bill kept keeping my phone from being turned on and then they refused me long distance. I got it all worked out plus 10 bucks off my phone bill for a year for the hassle. Probaly why they didn't want to change the number for free.

Sun, 08/10/2008 - 02:51 Permalink

Yeah. I guess for a total savings of $120 I can just ignore most calls.

Mon, 08/11/2008 - 01:51 Permalink

I can deal at this pointt. As I said before it has lingered down to just a few calls a month now. I just don't pick them up. It really saves on the aggravation.

Mon, 08/11/2008 - 13:25 Permalink

I figure if it is urgent or important enough that is what voice mail is for.

Tue, 08/12/2008 - 16:57 Permalink

If it is unknown or somebody that I don't know I won't pick it up either, thank god for the caller ID

Wed, 08/13/2008 - 02:22 Permalink

What really annoys me is when I tell a place like the lions club that these people no longer have this phone number and they still call back. I think they were big money givers cause I get alot of those calls. Problem is it doesn't end with they have changed thier number. The next line I get is "well maybe you would be interested in donating." I just hang up. The only place I do not EVER pass a donation on is Shriners Hospitol. To that I always give as much as I can.

Wed, 08/13/2008 - 13:12 Permalink

If they had all that money then why did they not pay their bills????

Thu, 08/14/2008 - 03:40 Permalink

That was a question I asked myself. I do not personally know these people. I wonder if they just lived beyond their means for vanity sake. I could write a documantary on this couple. Boys are in baseball and so on and so forth. Feels like I should know them personally. I usually just tell everyone they changed their number. You think they woulod have given the new number to the coach but that goes along with my theory that they just changed it and I was the lucky person that recieved it not long after.

I also have a totally FALSE report on Experian of a Verizon debt with Palisade Collection LLC listed in Englewood, NJ. I never had said verizon account! I Googled to find a phone number to contact them and low and behold a mass amount of people with the same story. Why are these people not in JAIL???

Fri, 11/21/2008 - 18:19 Permalink

Hi outraged
Since you are sure that you do not have any debt with Verizon, you can directly send debt validation letter by certified mail to the Collection agency. Probably they will not be able to validate the debt. If they cannot validate the debt, within 30 days of receipt of your letter, you can send a second letter telling them that they are in violation of FDCP Act by not validating the debt and they should immediately remove the listing from the report. If they still do not remove it, you should immediately send dispute letters to Experian asking them to remove the listing.

Sat, 11/22/2008 - 05:32 Permalink

Ideally, when a debt is sold off to a CA by the OC, and the CA cannot validate the debt, only the CA listing will be removed from the credit report by the credit bureaus and not the OC listing. But since you do not even owe the debt to the OC, both the listing should go out of your credit report. If you are sure that Verizon is not your OC and you do not owe them any money, you can directly send a dispute letter to the credit bureau and ask them to remove the listing from your report. You can find a sample debt validation letter if you visit http://www.creditmagic.org/letters/index.html

PALISADES COLLECTION -is just another collection firm -my judgement from a credit card was with Walpolf but on the credit report it`s in Palisides name. Could be anything -find out.

Tue, 11/25/2008 - 22:58 Permalink

Yes you are right Palisades can be for anything from a credit card bill to a hospitol bill...they collect them all. You would have to call and check or see if you can find out on your credit report. They shoould list the original creditor.

Wed, 11/26/2008 - 03:09 Permalink

Hi Porboy
Since Walpolf has brought judgment against you for the debt, it must be that the debt has been sold off by Palisades to Walpolf. Now Wolpolf has not reported the debt to the credit bureaus and so the debt has not been listed in the credit report and instead they have brought summon against you to recover the debt. If you still think that you do not owe the debt, and 30 days has not expired from the date of judgment you can file a motion to vacate the judgment.

Wed, 11/26/2008 - 11:26 Permalink

Porboy..I thought that your debt was out of statutes. I remember reading and talking with you on another post. You may have to remind me of the exact situation.I hope you got that debt validation letter out by certified mail. Also if you got the summons make sure you answer so they do not win by default.
