how long does it takes for your credit score to increase after you've paid off your debt

It will depend on how rapidly the data gets updated in your report. Check your report (you are subject to a free credit report each year from the three major credit bureaus). Find out discrepancies and dispute wrong information (if any). Contact your creditor if the accounts have not been reported with the current status.

Once you get the right informations on the report the score will rise consecutively.

Also check 1 at a time that way if you want to keep checking to see how your credit is improving you can do it every 4 months.

Sometimes it's really frustrating when you're trying to work 'issues' out ( that are on your credit) and no one is willing to budge! I'm talking CA's, etc. Any advice or suggestions?

Hi, LAURA. remember when I said my Cash Call account was 'sold' to a CA? Well......when THAT happened, I was thrilled! The account, with the CA was 5%, compared to Cash Call..at 99%. Anyway....I started sending $150.00 payments to the CA, starting last fall. However....the last few months I DID call them and let them know that the payment was a bit too much right now. I asked if I could send alittle less per month. They said they were "doing me a favor and letting my 'keep' my % at 5% instead of rasing it to 99%." They ALSO said when I get my taxes I can pay MOST of that off. Well.the 'tax thing' sounded good. However.....They said they wouldn't accept anything UNDER $150.00 per month. Here's my question to you. IF I send payments LOWER than the 'original' agreement, don't they HAVE to take payments? I really don't think they can LEGALLY ;hike' the % rate to 99% again. Any advice will help here. Thanks.

Bumping this last question up...I have a CA that I tried to make a payment arrangement with also and they told me if I didn't pay them the entire amount due in 1 payment that they would put a judgement against me so I'm curious to know if they can refuse payments under a certain amount of money per month...

Send them a DV letter via certified mail and they cant file suit until they validate it. Also, I suggest that you read the FCRA so that you know that they cannot speak to you like that.

FDCPA says that a CA cannot use False or Misleading Representations in Communications or:

§ 1692 e(4)(CA cannotsay that) Nonpayment of any debt will result in the arrest or imprisonment of any person or the seizure, garnishment, attachment
§ 1692 e(5) Threaten to take any action that cannot legally be taken or that is not intended to be taken

Also, no more talking to CAs over the phone. USPS only.

Thanks for the information! I'll be sending them a DV letter today.

Yes, you need to first send a debt validation letter to the CA. Until and unless the CA validates your debt, they cannot move to the court under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
