How do you remove bad credit ?

You can try to dispute entries for whatever reason you want; this may or may not be successful. You can also wait it out; entries are to be removed after seven years (except tax liens and judgments). If these accounts are from a collection agency, you can try sending a DV letter to the CA at the same time you dispute with the credit bureaus.

About the only way that I know too, I have paid some old debt off, but it is still there, so what good did it do but to get the collectors off my butt, I think that they should have to do some type of postive impact on your report if you pay old bad debt.

I agree with you, GOODNATURED. We 'save up' to pay off our debts, however..the debt remains on our CB's. Doesn't seem fair, does it? If you DO pay off a debt and can proof it, to the CB's, is it possible the will 'remove' the debt, before the SOL? Any suggestions?

I would love to see that happen, cause I have paid somethings off, I think there should be some incentive, like removing it from our reports. I think if I had it to do all over again, seeing that it had absolutely no result on my report, I probably would not have done it. Just let them get old and fall off the report on there own. l just think there should be something that is said for those of us who choose to pay them, they should remove them.

That is why it is a very good idea, when dealing with past due debts, that you simply ask your creditors if they will send you a letter stating they will remove the debt from your credit completely if you pay it in full. This doesn't always work but sometimes it can which will greatly improve your credit. You could make up some story to help your cause. A good one is telling them that you have five different past due debts and have saved up enough money to pay off two of them. You are going to pay off the two of those creditors willing to remove your account entirely from your credit reports. This has worked for many people in the past and is definately worth a shot.

I agree with you goodnatured..sure we did make them but at least we are paying..that would be great incentive to have them removed from a report.

I know I have a few items that will 'fall off' this year. Sometimes, 'you' wonder..."what's the purpose in paying them off when they just STAY on your CR's?"

Negatives on your CR have negative effect thus the sooner you remove it the better. The good ones should stay for a better credit rating.

I'm not saying I DON'T want to pay off my debt. I'm just saying why 'hurry' and pay them off when they will just stay on your Credit the same amount of time, than if you 'took your time' to pay them off. I think I said that clearly. LOL

I had got your point Wendy :) LOL. I just spoke about removing the negatives. I believe that paying off accounts do lower your score. To keep and manage them is better.

OKEY DOKEY, 'SMOKEY'!! LOL Yeah, LAURA.. I know what you were trying to say, in the first place. Just trying to put a little 'humor' in a 'tense' situation. LOL

I have had no problems with CA's removing their entries once i pay. although i am working on Calvary portfolio right now and last payment on our agreement will be 6/4/08 and they told me they'd wipe it off after 30 days. i am just wondering since i heard this CA was "shaky" at best whether i should request proof of our agreement before making last payment. i think i will do so just to cover my butt.

Hi DebtFreeInFl
I too think that you should request for the proof of the agreement before making your final payment.

Sometimes it's difficult to deal with CA's, etc. Looking at my CR, as a 'whole' is overwhelming at times. But.....trying to look at 'bits and pieces..one thing at a time' isn't as bad.

Hi sdchargers_63

I do agree with you on this point, However, I also agree that one should always check the status of the credit score frequently.

Yep...know what you mean. If you check your Credit score, as often as you can, you can 'go from there' with the goals you want to set for yourselve. Makes sense to me.

It can be hard to figure out where to start when repairing your credit. I would suggest starting with any debts that are past the SOL that way you are more likely to get the PFD. Then I would start with the items more likely to file against you (larger debts, etc.) Frome there I would go with the more recent listings. I say this because if you had a CC that was listed 6 months ago, that will hit your credit harder then a listing2 years ago. At the same time though, the more recent the listing the harder it is to get a PFD.

BTW, you will find CAs much easier to deal with if all of your communication is via mail. They wont dare make false claims or threats in a letter b/c you could drag their sorry behinds to court!

That is definately the truth. Mail is probaly one of the bnest ways to deal. When you get them on the phone chances are sooner or later you will find a person gets pleasure in demeaning you.

Remember what I said about CAs, they are easier to deal with via certified mail. They arn't often willing to violate the FDCRA in writing. MAkes it to easy for you to sue them.

Also, I find it easier not to use my credit report as my gadge for progress. I keep a note book with a section for each account. I write in it everything that I do with each account and any ideas I have for it. I then have a folder for each account with my copies of all of the letters I send the CAs and anything they send me. When I get an account or an inquiry removed from my credit report I put a big red D *for deleted* at the top of the page

It feels good to get to write that D and when I flip through the book and see all of those red marks I feel a whole lot better!

We can try out the process of debt repayment as CMB pointed out. I think this would help us in getting out of the debt more efficiently.

Same as all the others. Note that there is no guaaentre that you will be eligible for these anyway. If your credit is iffy or if you just don't have much credit history, your credit union will be the best. My other advice is never pay an annual fee and always pay the bill in full.
