Apart from credit repair, credit score, report, bankruptcy and similar topics we do discuss identity theft. We have a section in our site called Knowledge bank where you will find some useful information on credit related topics. We are also in the process of converting this section into Wiki so that anyone can contribute. Also don't forget to surf through the existing forum topics. Id theft is a very serious problem in our country and we should try our best to avoid falling in traps cleverly set up by the id thieves. The most common trap is giving out our personal info like SSN number, credit card number, bank account number, personal telephone number, email address, date of birth, etc. Out of these we should always try to avoid giving away our SSN and credit card/bank account numbers to a stranger without proper verification and confirmation.
Let me site a identity theft scam for you..
One sunny morning when you are about to leave for work, a 'court official' calls you up and says that you have failed to show up for a jury duty. As a result a warrant has been issued against you. He then suggests you to give your SSN no so that he can arrange to cancel the warrant after proper verification.
Wait!! This is just a trap and the ‘court official’ is just another id thief pretending to be an official. Once you give away your SSN no you will loose your identity! This scam is reported in more than 10 states and is popularly known as Jury Duty Scam.

Thanks for sharing the scam. From now on I have to be very careful abt unknown phone calls which I receive quite frequently.

I receive alot of 'spam' e-mail stating "my bank account has been compromised. Please re-set your information on our secure website." Yeah..right!!! It's THOSE kinds of e-mails that are trying to steal information from you. If you see e-mails like that, just delete them. Just beware of ID Theft....it's happened to alot of people!!
