Hi Guys,
Wonder if anyone can advice me here.
I had an account with a Bank when I lived in Miami. I am no longer in the country now. I had an amount of $546 that had to be paid and I was late by a month. My online statements show credit of the said amount and 0 balance owed. (2004)
I recently checked my credit report and it still shows this amount through a collection agency as KD/severely overdue/in collection payment, in 2 of the 3 agencies. One doesnt report it at all.
Why would this be? I am quite worried about this and perterbed also.
I have been wondering for a long time as to why I keep getting refusals from credit card companies.
BTW, would this affect my CR?

Yes, this affects your Credit Report and Credit Scores
Any (recent) collections account affects your credit scores.
First, try Disputing (or explaining) with the Bank. Where they had
clearly received their $546 and acknowledges the fact on your bank
statements, the Bank mistakenly sent this account to collections.
Bringing their "error" to their immediate attention, the clerk might pull the
collection account back from the CA. And the CA may delete its collection
account. Know and understand that the Bank cannot remove the
CAs account from your credit report.
If this does not work, try this:
Dispute with the Collection Agency that it was "paid in full" and should
have never gone to collections. Send the CA a copy of your bank statement
showing that $546 payment only. Be sure to Blacken-out ALL
confidential information, such as Account Number, and all other
irrelevant transactions. In other words, show your Name along
with the Transaction Date, Amount ($546) and details relating
to that transaction only! Request removal of their negative
listing from your credit file immediately.
Reminder, send everything by USPS Certified Mail
Return Receipt Requested. Attention to the "FCRA
Compliance Officer." Do NOT telephone them.
Do not volunteer any "new" personal information.
