-Department store cards from different stores can be issued by the same bank so your utilization on one card can effect your credit worthiness on another.
-Never close positively reporting accounts if possible. Length of credit is 15% of your score.
- Leverage your credit to get ahead not to get by.
- Go slow and stay in your comfort zone. If you have a problem with living within your means then get an adviser to hold you accountable.

While there are some credit repair services that are legitimate, the problem I've come to find with a lot of the services is that they are a complete waste of time due to the amount of time you are sometimes required to be enrolled in their programs "for best results". Months and months go by with you having to pay monthly fees for minimal work on their end.

You can absolutely do anything a credit repair company can do yourself. If a company only disputes negative items on your credit report they are not worth very much. Find a company that is education based and has monthly reviews to hold you accountable to a budget and will see you through to your credit goals. You want to build a solid credit foundation and learn how to manage accounts to maximize your scores. ALWAYS check as many sources as possible for a companies reviews and reputation. I always make sure they have a physical location you can go to if you want. Most credit repair companies subcontract out their dispute letters in an automated process so really you are wasting your money with them. Although most people do not have the time or patience to want to do so. A great credit coach is worth every cent. -Pay your bills 3 days before your statement date ( Reports smaller balance to CB) which lowers your credit card utlization
- It doesnt matter how much you use a card as long as you get the balance below 50% by statement date and really you need to be below 30% utilization for it to start counting positively.
- Atleast have 2 credit cards and 1 department store card. (Mix of credit) under 30% utilization.
-Department store cards from different stores can be issued by the same bank so your utilization on one card can effect your credit worthiness on another.
-Never close positively reporting accounts if possible. Length of credit is 15% of your score.
- Leverage your credit to get ahead not to get by.
- Go slow and stay in your comfort zone. If you have a problem with living within your means then get an adviser to hold you accountable.

All thanks to Ghost. Last year my credit score was at 375. I was trying to raise my score so that I may purchase a home. I have two accounts that are closed but are still on my credit report. One is a credit card that has less than $1000 debt and the other is a car I voluntarily turned in but the debt is around $7000.
