Can someone tell me the steps of removing a paid tax lien from my credit reports. This was paid 2004.

Hi bneerin,

Once you have paid a tax lien it should not take much time for you to get it removed. It should be removed by 30 days. However, you must always remember to get a certified copy of the payment receipt as an evidence of your payment. If you have this, it will help you to record the fact that you have paid in full as well as prevent the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) from charging you another time.

Now, if you see that the credit report is not displaying any comment on your full payment of the lien, then you should send a dispute letter to the CRA stating that they have an inaccurate piece of information and you are disputing it. You can also send a debt validation letter to the bureau. Once you have paid the tax lien, any further requests from the bureau to validate the debt is turned over and the information automatically gets removed from the credit report.
