I, like so many others, have fallen into the payday loan trap recently. I currently have 5 loans out and they are eating up my paychecks.

I live in Maine, and am separating from my husband. Every dollar counts and I am wondering how to take care of these loans.

Payday lending is prohibited in Maine. That means all the above mentioned lenders are illegal in your state. You owe them nothing more than the principal balance. No interest, no fees. Just close down your old bank account and open a new one to stop debiting money from your account. Don’t worry...they can’t do anything.
Please ignore the advise given by sally....even as illegal lenders they CAN do lots to you. First off you need to revoke ACH rights with each lender and then submit a copy of the revocation to your bank manager. Secondly, you need to revoke the voluntary wage assignments you have signed.
