I have been reading these forums and have found some people in a similar situation as me. I have medical bills totaling $83,000. Most of it is hospital and some of it is private practice. I live in California but was at a Nevada hospital. Does the statue of limitations go for Nevada or California laws? Also my accident was in 2004 and they are still on my credit as of July, 2013. Is this ok? If not what can I do to get them removed?

Welcome to the forums!!!
Statute of limitations applies for the state in which the debt has been originated. In this case it is Nevada. So you should follow Nevada laws. Usually negative items remain on your credit report for 7 years from the date of your first default. Since the same doesn’t happen, so you should immediately dispute it with the credit bureaus.

I was told by a home loan officer that medical bills don't necessarily have to come off and that they can stay on forever even if I dispute it. Is this true?
