What steps should I take to improve my score from 500 to 600? I have around a 6 month time frame to do this. I have been paying down all my bills but there is still a huge amount in the 20k range. What are my steps I should be taking?

You will have to pay off your all outstanding debts to improve your credit score. If it seems difficult to pay back the full amounts, then negotiate with your creditors and set up a payment arrangement with them. Try to add positive information on your credit report. The above mentioned tips may help you to improve your credit score gradually with time.
