I have a judgment against me in New York. I am a New York resident. Recently, I was advised by my bank that they received an information subpoena and restraining notice. They have a hold on my account of over $3,000.00 (almost double what the judgment is). I know what this debt is for but it was so long ago. I truly thought that it was resolved. This was for a credit card I had many years ago and it got transferred to a Capital One card. I am not disputing that I owe the money but the judgment is for a lot more than the money that I owed. What happens now? The bank will not talk to me about this as they say I have to contact the attorneys for the creditor. The attorneys for the creditor are horrible and have all kinds of complaints against them. They are not nice people, not that I expected them to be. My question is, what do I do now? Is my bank going to pay them? Do I need to pay them directly? I am very confused and need an answer and some advice on what to do next. I just want to pay it and get it over with and get the hold off of my account. Thanks for any advice.
