Debt collection letter - how to pay

I received a letter from a debt collection agency. It was from a medical bill I could not pay and was expecting this. I do have the money to pay for it now. I need help in how to handle this so it is not reported to the credit bureaus.

First, is it typical for the debt to be reported to the credit bureaus as soon as it goes into collection?

And what should I ask for from the collection agency? Should I request it in writing or call them?

Thanks!

You can send a debt validation letter via certified mail with return receipt request. Yes, the debt will be reported to the credit bureaus and your credit report.

You have accepted that the debt is valid. So, the debt is likely to be easily validated. Once the debt is validated, try to settle it asap.

Welcome to the forums!!!
Ask the CA to validate the debt in writing via certified mail with a return receipt request. If they give you a valid proof, then try to negotiate with them. If possible set up a payment arrangement with them.
