How do I answer a summons?

Thanks to the people that made this site happen.

Back in February 25th of this year, a debt collector sued me for $28000 and served me a Summon, luckily I found this site and through reading I was able to answer their Summon. Afterward I was expecting to receive a Summon of appearance, but to this day I have not been served one, but the debt collector instead of being so adamant about wanting over $12000 to settle or else will go to court, they are now asking just $3000 to settle.

My question is how much they have to ask for court date, before their case is thrown out of court. It seems to me that they can’t provide the necessary paperwork I asked for, and therefore they are trying to settle for whatever they can get their hands on.

Do you send the validation with the answer for the summons or seperate? Also is there a form to send or just write it out?

I was served by a Minnesota county sheriff today. I'm being sued by a debt collector on a debt I was unable to pay on a HSBC account that has been closed for years (they are a seriously corrupt predatory lender). I found this site while doing research on what to do now. I can not afford a lawyer so I'm going to have to slog my way through this by myself.

I managed to find an Answer form at my state's judicial site and fill it out. I'll mail a copy to their lawyers at the address they provided. But, according to everyone here, I also need to file with the county clerk. The filing fee for a civil case in my county is $320. What I need to know is, as the defendant, do I have to pay the filing fee or is that covered by the plaintiff when they filed the lawsuit? I have no money and no one I can borrow it from.

If I have to pay a fee, there is no way I can do it. I can only send their lawyer the Answer and hope it ends there.

Took out a BofA Visa 16yrs ago. Always paid on time. Got it up to 16,000. 1.5 yrs ago, went through breakup and left, losing the house. Pay freeze also occurred for me the past 3 years. Times were hard and I needed assistance(i.e.- $100 less on payments to manage). I called and asked for help. FIA refused to negotiate the terms. I stopped paying. It's gone to a few different collection agencies, and now I have a summons I need to go down and file a motion for. Any help here?

I am a payroll officer and I suppose to deduct £25 each month when a defendant who works for our company should pay to his creditor. I have applied the deduction for sometime but I fail to do for all most 5 month. Now as we have received the summons letter to attend the court is it possible to write to the court manager that we will restart to deduct £25 each month fom the next payroll and we appologise for that because we do not want to disrupt or pervert the court of justice. I am writing this because our intention is to restart deducting the payment of £25 and to avoid going to court.
