I have my Social Security electronically deposited in my bank. A collection agency has gotten a judgement against me.
My bank says they cannot determine if my deposit is from Social Security although it says so on the deposit slip. I live on this meager income and cannot afford to have any of it taken from me. My bank stands between me and this collection agency and they say they can do nothing. Wells Fargo Bank.
I need to talk to goodnatured about one of his posts
Social security benefits are always exempt from garnishment. Account garnishment is always tricky. This is because, as per law, collection agency may get permission to garnish a checking account with co-mingled moneys. You can request the social security administration to mail your social security check directly instead of depositing it in your bank account. You can cash in the check and use this money to repay your debt. You can also open a separate account, which will be reserved for your social security moneys.
