In Oct 2005, my daughter who was 15 then saw a NP in a dermatologist's office in AZ. we made an appt to follow up in 6 months, April 2005. We missed that appt and was sent a bill in May 2005 for $75.00 for a no show fee. I call the doc's off ice and spoke with the office mngr and she said she'd take care of it. We subsequently changed docs. Never heard form that office as as far as any bills, phone calls, nothing. My daughter went last week to her bank in TX for a student CC and found out that in Nov. 2008 the doc's office sent the amt plus interest to CA and attached the debt to my daughters credit report because she was then 18. Is this legal? What action does my daughter need to do now?
Can my debt be passed on to my daughter?
Yes, this is absolutely legal because doctors can charge no show fee. In this regard, your daughter can contact with creditors and explain them the situation. She can also contact with collection agencies and request them for a validation letter. She is also need to check whether the statute of limitation has crossed or not. Your daughter may also get help from an experienced lawyer and clarify her doubts to resolve the problem.
