I have been out of the US for about 7 years and am now returning to work here. I pulled one of my credit reports and noticed a number of old debts, chargeoffs, collections marked for deletion in the coming months - July is when they start coming off.
I wanted to know if I should wait for these items to be removed before beginning to seek out new credit - since I am also trying to embark on a journey to increase my credit score from its current sub 620 level to something much more attractive.
My ultimate goal is to get on the housing market next year and start looking at buying a home.
Even when you make a single payment towards an old account it resets the SOL clock. In the mean time, you may have to deal with collection calls.
