How would I go about challenging them? I don't know what my parents did with the money because they're dead. I know this is impeding in getting a loan for grad school. Lately I've been trying to get rid of a lot of accounts in collections so I can finish grad school
what state do you live in? Are you stating that your parents used this card? Giving it to them for safekeeping is not the same thing as putting it in there name. how old were you when the judgment was filed.
extra info
I live in the state of IL
when it happened, someone stole my identity, but my parents used the card. When I was 22, my mom gave me the card back but it was already 986 dollars used out of 1,000.
the judgement was filed when I was 23 about a year and a half ago. I couldn't go to court because it was immediately after my dad's passing. So I wasn't represented but the court ruled in favor of capital one for 2286.
I think the age of majority in illinois is 21. Did you ever use this card? Have you looked at the case file? Did someone steal your identity or was it your parents?
it was someone else that stole my identity but after the investigation, all the social security report did was flag my account. From 15 - 23 I didn't have possession of the card. My parents did but yes my identity was stolen when I was 15
is there any help I can get?
I'm bumping this I am in need of major help still. Do I pay the judgement?
It is difficult to claim Identity theft on something that you and your parents used. But I guess you can try.
