After negotiations, the collection agency and I came to an agreement on the amount. They also very specifically agreed (on their letterhead) to delete the account from my credit report. They cashed my check on 11/10/10. My credit reports were updated today, and account shows PAID, instead of being deleted. Now what can I do???

Did the CA actually agree to delete the account from you credit report?
I don't think so. I guess it will be shown as PAID till you dispute it with the credit agencies. I hope you may also do it online these days.

Yes, it was on their letterhead. Thanks for the info. I will be getting the proof together this week and sending it out. It's on all 3 reporting agency's reports.

I meant to say to they actually delete the info from the credit report. Meaning it just disappears?

this might be a situation for a MOV letter. where you ask the CRA why are you reporting this when I have a letter of deletion?

Please state the method you used ,did you use restrictive endorsing on the check or money order ? Hopefully you got this in writing and saved copies.
I noticed there a many templates for doing just that .
Also restrictive endorsing on a check after there will be one in a letter head Will "seal the deal " as they cannot cross over the terms of what it says and are bound to it .

Now with that being said how long has is been since you requested it and paid the item off ?

Agreed or the person could just go ahead and dispute it with the 3 credit agencies . They will request it from them .
