Hello:
I had recieved a collection bill from a collection agency on an unpaid hospital bill. I pretty much immediately went to the hospital where the original charges were from, and made the payment, wrote the check out to the hospital directly and paid.
The person who took the payment said that since I made the payment directly to the hospital they would pull this out of collections and it would not show up on a credit report.
Just checked my credit report and trans union has it as a collection item - with a zero balance - noted "Payment after charge off/collection" and equifax has it noted as "Paid".
I was under the impression that since I paid the original source the full amount and they said it wouldn't be a credit report issue I would be fine, but there it is on my credit report under collections...
I'm guessing that this still is a negative on my report, right?
Should I fight this and how?
You need to dispute this with the CRA immediately. Hopefully we can remove the whole item instead of correct it as paid. Most people prefer to pay the OC rather than the CA but sometimes that isn't the best.
do you have all your credit reports?
what state are you in?
what is the original creditor and the name of the CA?
what is the date of first delinquency? 30 days after last payment
this information will help me make suggestions specific to your case. The state will determine the statue of limitations for this debt. knowing the name of the OC original creditor, will help show if there is a specific govt regulating agency that can help so rt out the truth. Knowing the exact dates is very important too.
