I owed my cable company over $300.00 for unpaid balance plus equipment i returned the equipment to the cable company they gave me credit for it and say i owe them $217.00 now but the debt has been sold to a collection agency and they say i still owe the original amount they said "we don't care about the equipment or the credit"
Then they say we will settle for 40% of the debt but that is still $200.00 i asked why i cant settle for 40% after the credit for the returned equiptment and they said becuase it was returned to the cable company after they bought the debt
What can i do about this?

Send a DV letter to the Collection Agency. In the letter make sure you ask for an exact accounting of how much is owed and what the charges are for.
I would file a complaint with the attorney general against the cable company, stating that they are trying to collect debt for equipment owed (as they sold the whole debt with crediting the returned equipment)
