What is the next step after pay for delete letter?

I sent a pay for delete letter to a collection agency and they responded that they can't locate my account. They want me to send them more information regarding the account. I truly don't know it, plus I think it's a trap. Should I send them a debt validation letter or use their response as evidence to dispute it? I would really appreciate some advice. Thank you!

do you have all your credit reports?
what state are you in?
what is the original creditor and the name of the CA?
what is the date of first delinquency? 30 days after last payment

Yes send a DV letter.

Thank you for your reply!

Yes I have all of the reports.
I am in California.
Orginal Creditor is Burbank Water & Power and the CA is Allied Interstate.
It's for a bill that was initially like $200 that never got paid and now it became $397.00.
It is almost 6 years old.

I am trying to clean up my credit. I have this old collection and another one that I want to pay or delete.

I will send them DV letter. If they can't validate, then I can go ahead and dispute with the Credit Agencies, right?

the statute of limitations in California is 4 years. So they won't win a law suit. yes send the DV letter. then dispute

what is on your report? the OC, the CA or both?

if it is just the CA then you might be able to offer a pay for delete or just push and push the 7.5 years is coming soon.
