Hi,
In April my wife and talked to someone about getting a mortgage. The guy went ahead and pulled both our credit reports. I was a little surprised at this as I was not even there.
Now, the mortgage consultant moved to another company and someone else took over. The new guy decided that he needed to check our credit now and went ahead. I have two questions:
1) Was it even legal for my credit to be pulled in the first place?
2) Once you let someone pull your credit once, can they just keep doing it again and again?
Thanks for any help.
question about hard inquiry
Hi Lowy,
1) Was it even legal for my credit to be pulled in the first place?
This will depend on what kind of conversation was it? Was it simply a conversation or was there any kind agreement. There are doubts about the first pull.
However, I don't think that the second one should have taken place.
2) Once you let someone pull your credit once, can they just keep doing it again and again?
No, if you apply for a loan or credit card they can pull your report only once.
Thanks,
Aaron
hard inquiry
Hi Lowy,
I think you can dispute the second pull. This was in no way authorized. Send a certified dispute letter to the credit bureaus.
Thanks.
