Questions on settlement

Hey all,

One of my debts were handed over to a collection agency. In talking with a debt collector I reached a verbal settlement agreement, and he was all set to fax me a settlement letter. However, he said there was no way he could get it signed. I told him that if it wasn't signed, it wasn't an agreement. I clearly stated this to him that I required something signed before I could release the funds.

Any idea if an unsigned settlement agreement is worth the paper it's printed on? Or does it sounds like a scam whereby they intend to come back after thesettlement is paid for the remaining balance?

Hi Garry,

It would have been better if it were signed. However, if the letter is printed on their company letterhead, it is supposed to be an authentic one.

However, if your state allows you to record calls, you can record one such conversation on the settlement to keep as the proof.

Thanks,

Aaron

Hello Garry,

I think if the letter comes printed with their letter it would be good enough as a proof of the agreement.

Thanks
