If I have my debt deleted by the collection agency will the original creditor that shows debt sold to collection agency also be deleted? Or, do I then have to deal with them to have them also deleted their entry on my credit report? How long does it take after I pay my debt to the collection agency to have them delete it from credit report?
Of course i would have sent them a letter stating that if I paid my debt they would delete my debt.

you need to deal with them separately. However, you may have luck
they don't want to work too hard on something that won't pay

Hi pab,

Yes, I agree with cinnamngrl. If you pay the collection agency the original creditor may not agree to remove the negatives. On the other hand if the original creditor (OC) gets paid the collection won't agree to remove the negatives.

However, after you pay off the debt the account status gets updated as "Paid". Even if the OC does not remove the negatives it won't be much of a problem.

Thanks,

Aaron

whoah aaron.

look, no entity can do a pay for delete unless they own the debt. So the OP must determine who owns the debt (by sending a DV letter to the CA).

And if the OC turns out to own the debt it is very rare for an OC to do a pay for delete. I would say if they have assigned the debt to a CA (what it is called when a OC doesn't sell the debt to a CA), there is almost 0% chance that they will agree to a PFD.

CA agree to PFD because they buy debt for pennies on the dollar and only care about your credit record when they can use it to pressure you into paying. when they whitewash your credit report, they are hoping to get more business out of you next year.

so please don't imply that you can switch back and forth between the OC and CA easily.

my theory is that hopefully we get the CA deleted and then use the sold debt and paid receipt to get the OC to delete with a 623

great info. i guess the first step is determining who owns the debt by sending them a dv ltr, correct? then deal with that agency, correct? on the original creditor it says "closed written off"ca bought debt.

don't go by what the CA implies by how the OC reports the debt. Make the CA answer the question of ownership.

Hi cinnamngrl,

I did not mean that it is easy to switch back and forth between the two. I only meant to talk about the payment made, and the credit reporting. It is obviously not easy to switch from the collection agency to the original creditor, and again from the OC to CA.

Thanks,

Aaron
