Correcting personal information on credit report

Hi,

I want to contact each of the CRAs in order to get all of my personal info updated. I've tried to get old and inaccurate items (mostly addresses & phone numbers) deleted through online disputes and have had some success. I'm wondering about what I can legally ask them to delete though.

I've been married for over 10 years, yet all 3 CRAs are showing my maiden name. EQ and EX are showing a former married name from early 90's. Now, I did go back to my maiden name for a little while after the divorce but haven't been known by it since I got married to my current husband in 2000. The oldest account I have is a student loan from 1994, which I got under my current married name. So, can I ask the CRAs to delete the former names based on the fact that they're outdated?

Also, does anyone know if EQ and TU offer a more detailed report to consumers? They don't have a listing of names/addresses with "identification numbers" like EX does.

Hi Rois,

So, can I ask the CRAs to delete the former names based on the fact that they're outdated?

If this isn't hurting your credit in any way I don't think there's the need to dispute these. For example, if you try disputing such information with Equifax they can remove all old and closed accounts and this can hurt your credit.

As for the reports you can get detailed reports (all the three) from www.annualcreditreport.com and Myfico.com.

Thanks,

Aaron

Hi Rois,

Equifax and TransUnion may not give you more detailed information. It is all the same for the three bureaus. the only difference is that not all credit card companies and lenders report to all the three bureaus. However, you can get hold of the copies of your credit report from annualcreditreport.com. You will get the most authentic credit report from here. Also, annualcreditreport.com gives a free copy of your report once in a year.

Thanks,

Anaida
