How do I get a collection agency to stop trying to collect o

I recently had a repossesion removed from all three of my credit reports (Thanks God), but over the weekend I received a letter from a collection agency trying to collect on that debt. What do I do to get them to stop? Is it possible for this new collection agency to end up on my credit report?

Welcome to this community :)

Yes, it is possible that the collection agency can end up on your credit report. You should immediately send them a debt validation letter through certified mail, requesting a return receipt. This will stop the CA from furthering the collection process till they validates your debt.

If they fail to validate the debt they won't be able to collect this debt, and won't be bale to report.

You will get a sample debt validation letter with this community. Change the wording according to your own situation.
