Hi,
I had a credit card for $3500.00 in 2006, and as for the past couple of years work has been very slow in mid 2007 I was unable to make any payments towards the account.
So as time progressed the debt owed to this card company went to collections. I have had 2 different collectors send me paperwork saying that I owe and there are 2 different account numbers, and the dollar amount is NEVER the same.
I was told in February 2010 that I was going to get sued, just to receive a letter shortly after that mentioning if I paid the lump sum of $1200.00 all my debt would be cleared. I was happy that debt would get cleared. I thought maybe it was my lucky day.
Then yet again I received a letter telling me to disregard the last letter I received that it was done in error. Yesterday my spouse was served papers. There is no court date on this paper and its quite confusing for me.
What should I do?
lawsuit
Hi Maslin,
You did not try debt validation on this debt, so till now you don't know if this debt is at all valid. However, as you have received the summons you need to file an answer to the summons. To file the answer you can get help from the court clerk.
Now, as you will visit the court, request the court clerk to provide you the ppaerwork on this debt. You will get to know if the debt is at all valid. At the same time you can ask for the required help to file the answer to the summons. Also, inquire about the court date.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Aaron
