Removing potentially negative item from report

Hi,

While checking my credit report I saw an item listed as "Paid, Closed", but shows up as potentially negative. I remember it was a bad check and was unpaid for months, and I paid it later. Do I dispute it to get it off my CR as negative or is it destined to be there forever even though it was Paid In Full?

If I do write a dispute letter, do I have to include the account number? I don't have it.

Thank you in advance for all your help!

Hi Haylie,

While checking my credit report I saw an item listed as "Paid, Closed", but shows up as potentially negative.

This can't be potentially negative as the debt has been paid, and has already been reported as "Paid, Closed".

Do I dispute it to get it off my CR as negative or is it destined to be there forever even though it was Paid In Full?

If this was paid in full, it should be reported so. That is the account should be reported as "Paid in full". However, you cannot dispute the negative listings as you had missed the payments, and thus the information is right. This will get reported for 7 years from the date when the negative information was first reported.

You could have requested the creditor or collection agency (whom you have paid) to agree to a "Pay for delete" (PFD) agreement. With PFD the negatives are removed. However, now you can try removing this with the help of goodwill letter.

It is a letter requesting the creditor or collection agnecy to remove the negatives based on goodwill.

Thanks,

Aaron
