I recently sent a Debt Validation letter via certified mail to a collection agency and received a letter back stating that my file has been:
"Assigned to our dispute department where one of our dispute investigators will be in contact with you to gather information to help resolve your dispute. You can expedite the process by contacting us directly"
They also say:
"Please be advised that an associate will attempt to contact you regarding this dispute for a reasonable period of time. If we are unable to establish conatact with you, we will discontinue our invetigation of your dispute"
Aren't they legally obligated to validate the debt within 30 days or delete, regardless of further contact with me. I asked in writing to only be contacted by mail regarding this matter. What can they possibly have to ask me? I have asked them to validate!
The debt is valid, however the original debt was $200 and they are now reporting it as $2,000!
How should I handle? Any help would be greatly appreciated... I am trying to repair my credit on my own.
you don't need to give them any info. that's fake. they can't contact you or do any collection activity until they validate. there is no 30 day limit. if this is on your credit then dispute it.
So I do not have to do a thing? That can't continue to report without validating, correct?
Then why do they say:

that statement is a violation. they are trying to trick you into giving them info
