I used to have an account with CAPIT ONE BANK. It is in my negative items of my credit report now as "Status: Paid,Closed/Current, was past due 60 days. " Date Opened: 03/1999 ; Date of Status: 12/2006 ; Reported Since: 03/1999 ; Last Reported Date: 12/2006 . I live in North Carolina. Shouldn't this account already be removed from my credit history as it is more that 7 years since 1999? Thank you
I think it goes by the date of your last payment or the date of the first late payment. So if you opened it in 3/1999 and paid on it until say 5/2000 before you quit making payments then it would go by the 5/2000. Hope this helps. You can also look on your record and see what the date was that they listed as "30 late as of". It should have a date there. Try using that one.. Also if you pulled up your credit report and it is close to going off it should say it right by that account name. I have one and it says "this acount is due to leave record on 8/2008." Hope I helped ya.
thanks a lot fireyone, you helped me a lot!
From the first date of delinquency the time starts ticking. When did you make your payments last Shiny?
You are very much welcome shiny. I know this is all confusing. Thats how I ended up here in the first place. The more you understand the more help you can give to yourself or someone else. Good luck.

What state do you live in?
how old is this debt?
who is the original creditor?
Is the negative tradeline a Collection Agency or the Original Creditor?
Walter, Cinnamon asks some really important questions. If you debt is covered by the statute of Limitations it may not be in your best interest to settle the debt, due to several reasons. Try to look at your credit report and find the date of deliquency then post it here.
