I submitted a dispute with Experian about 12 months ago for a mortgage late that was not accurate. They said the late payment had been verified to be accurate. The mortgage lender has gone out of business and sold my loan to Citi, Citi has verified the loan was never late, but Experian is refusing to re-investigate, stating the account has already been verified to be accurate. I can't get anyone at Citi to produce a letter, they have submitted a dispute stating I was never late to Experian, but it has a different account # after Citi took over the loan. Does anyone know how handle?')
Experian Refusal to Investigate
You now need to ask them to prove how they verified this late payment, with who?, what is their title?, who do they work for? Did they work for the mortgage lender that went out of business? Where is the proof of funds applied to the account on those dates in question? Do they have an accounting procedure for misappropriated funds? Etc... If they can not satisfy your request for proof that they did a reasonable investigation, then the must correct or delete the reporting under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
