Season's Greetings,
First the facts... then the question:
1. I have a very large judgment against my home.
2. I live in NY
3. In NYS the statute is 10 years
4. The judgment was issued in 2000 (expires 2010).
5. It is a judgment, not a lien
6. It is from EAB (bought by citigroup 2001)
7. I do not recall ever being served
8. It does show up on my title search (it's how I discovered it).
I want sell and the equity is my only retirement!
Questions:
1. How will I know if they are trying to renew it?
2. What is my best move and when do I do it?
3. What kind of Lawyer can help me?
I don't want to wake a sleeping dog, but I'd really would like to make the best move...

Hello tdk and welcome to credit magic. I would imagine that you could wait for the ten year period to expire and then go to the court house and see if the judgment still stands. Sometimes creditors do not keep updating the judgments but I suppose if it were rather large they would find the effort to do so.
Others here will give you good advice but I would look into the judgment and see what was going on. I can not see how these places get judgments and people do not get served. I have seen it on here many of times. Let the others speak and then maybe give a local atty a call.

go to the court and look at the file. it should show how you were served.
I would ask for a copy (probably pay a copy fee), and consult an attorney. Depending on the amount of judgment, it would be worth it.

I'm considering doing my own credit repair. 2 problems the first is a home I bought in florida in 05 was forclosed and since sold. In process of ownership mortgage was solt to another bank Countrywide that didn't assist me in trying to keep it. This shows on my credit report twice once by mortgage broker then by bak sold to double whammy. If house was since sold is their any way to get this removed from my report really want to buy house. I've been tol my only option is to find seller willing to hold mortgage. Is credit repair even worth it if this is still going to be on my report.
