Back in 2003 I bounced a check "Huntington Bank" wish was to be for a loan payment, also huntington bank. I payed the extra charges, but today I am still being charged for it. Over $2,000 in late fees. I been paying on this loan "$7000." for 10 years.
I have 4 payments left, but still owe them $5,000.
I borrowed the $7000. to pay off my house. At the time I was still working. Shortly after that I was put on disability, and my income droped. I would pay at times extra a mouth, put still got charged a late fee. Can I fight this?
Hello Stan, Usually banks keep pretty good records. Do you have any proof showing that you paid the extra charges? If so I would take that documentation down to the bank. I would think it would be better to go down to the bank and ask where the late fees are coming from and what you can do to resolve this issue. Its pretty hard to give any good advice until you get some of these answers. The bank manager should be able to pull up your account and review it with you.
talk to the bank about the extra charges
Hi Stan,
I agree with fireyone. If you have proof of payment of the extra charges, you can talk about it to the bank. However, before that make sure that you have paid all that you owed along with the extra charges. Get in place all the old statements on the account. Add all that could be considered as the extra charges.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Aaron
I would complain to the OCC.

these kind of charges got BofA sued.
This is not a good position to be in, I am thinking what happened here is you got behind on the payments and it is not current. You have been paying, but have you brought the balance back to current what should be left today.
If you fall behind you are suppose to pay all of the amount missed and all of the late fees included. Otherwise they can continue month to month still saying that you are late.
You need to go to the bank to find out if this is the case. Next question is have you seen your credit report, it is showing more then one late? If it was not for this I would say to apply for a new loan and transfer the balance off of this account to stop the increasing late fees. But the damage might be done, making it now hard to do that.
Nightstar, I do think stan feel bad about this, let's not drag him down. It seems that the fees and interest are pretty high, and he does have a right to get this investigated by the occ.
Can I fight my bank?
Thank you for your reply(s)......yes I have proof..and will contact OCC.
Huh? I was not being condescending, I would never do that. I am sorry Stan if I sounded that way. I just like to talk through asking if what I was speculating was what happened.
