I had a dispute over an old negative item with a collection agency. We negotiated a 50% settlement, and they sent me a faxed letter stating that the account was settled in full. Also, in this letter, they agreed to delete this item from the credit bureaus.
Time passes. These items are still on my credit report. i am not sure how to proceed. But, I do have the fax as proof.
What should I do next to get this removed?
Thanks,
Todd
removing negative item rom credit report
Hi Todd,
As far as I understand from your query, that you have paid the settled amount to the collection agency. If it is so, then other than the fax, you also have the settlement letter sent by the collection agency, I think. You can use these two proofs to dispute the item off your credit report. You can dispute this with the 3 credit bureaus. You can find a sample dispute letter at http://www.creditmagic.org/repair/dispute-letter.html .
Contact details of the 3 credit bureaus:
Equifax
P.O. Box 740241
Atlanta, GA 30374
1-800-685-1111
Experian
P.O. Box 2002
Allen, TX 75013
1 888 397 3742
TransUnion
P.O. Box 1000
Chester, PA 19022
1-800-888-4213
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Aaron.
Send a method of verification letter to the CRAs along with a copy of your deletion letter
Thanks for the replies. I used the template above, which is perfect. One additional question: Should I send these letters via Certified Mail?
Thanks again.
send certified letters
Hi Todd,
Yes all letters sent to the credit bureaus or the creditor and the collection agency, should be sent through certified mail.
Hope that you will soon be able to get out of your problem :)
Regards,
Aaron
