A sherrif came to our home for my husband. He was not home left it with me. Can they do that. how do we stop this if he was never given notice before.

You need to talk to the sheriff and also need to file a motion to vacate any judgment against you. You can state the reason that you were not served any summons prior to this, so you did not know this was coming.
