My only income is from Social Security Disability Retirement, child support and an Police Officer Industrial-Disability retirement. I saw somewhere once a leter you could send to your banks informing them that your income is exempt from Judgments, but now I cant find it. ( I am in California). Does anyone know how I go about protecting my bank accounts from attachment? I have not been served any summons, but I had fraud years ago and I know the SOL is appoarching...

Thanks in advance

I think all you have to do is inform your bank that the money going into your account is from SS and they should keep an eye out for anyone trying to garnish your account. But keep in mind that if you owe Federal taxes, child support or alimony then your account can be garnished to pay it.

I had a company take a couple hundred out of my account and my bank pursued it and got the money back for me, I simply had to go into the bank and let them know that I did not authorize it. It took about ten days but I got every penny back. I would say that it was worth a try anyway.

You may want to visit your bank and discuss this with them. Write a letter about your money being from the source you listeed and have them keep it on file. I would just say you have some old debts coming to SOL. They do not need the whole story. This way it may stop the creditors from taking money from your account to begin with. I also would keep track of those debts and monitor your report. Once they reach the SOL be sure they are removed. One other suggestion..print a copy of your report and keep it. Sometimes when accounts get past the SOL a collector will grab them up for pennies and try to change the date of last payment so it appears you are responsible and the debt is with in SOL..I am going through it now.
