If you send a collection agency a debt validation letter, how is the credit breau going to know if they respond within 30 days or not?

Hi Tina,

I'm new at this to but I believe that is why you send it certified with a receipt so you will have proof of when you sent it. I'm sure others will be able to help you with this better than me. The have more knowledge of this sort of thing. But that is my guess. Just hang in there.

Hi, I believe there is no certain time limit a collector has to validate a debt. I do know if they do not validate you can dispute it with the credit bureaus and they have to remove the listing. I have heard of collection companies sending junk they know is not true validation and some who just don't reply. Debra is correct you must keep the return receipt from the registered letter you sent to show the amount of days has passed.

Mizzz_Tina,

If the debt is validated by the collection agency, then they will report it to the credit bureau. However, there is no fixed time for doing it. If the debt is not validated by the collection agency, then you have to report it to the credit bureau and also you can dispute the listing.

Justin, If they do not validate does this ensure that you can successfully get the listing removed due to the fact they did not validate? What if when it is disputed they validate with the collection agency?
