I was just checking out Experians web site. I read on there that if you dispute something the source has 30 days from the date you request it or 45 day if the information was from an annual free credit report. Does anyone know why this is I thought it was 30 days period.

Experian is real good at making up their own rules, they have had countless lawsuits filed against them for violating the fcra, they dont use fair isac, their scoring system is insane,I sent them a oficial police report to them via certified mail because there was 2 fraud accounts on my report ,I demanded under fcra section 605 that it be blocked from my report, and what do they do .they send me a letter back stating the police report was invalid, and they dont have 45days the law is 30 if they go past that send them a certified letter demanding what you are disputing be removed,or send them a letter of intent to sue ,they are the most difficult to deal with and they are a bunch of clowns there!
I know I talked to a man named Jerry when I did my dispute and he was trying to solve the problem over the phone. I told him I wasn't denying the account was mine. I was disputing how it was listed. He kept asking me if I had ever been late on the payments before. Well yes. But they had told me if I paid the early termination fee they would let me out of the contract. I had no idea they were going to report it as a charge off. After dispute they changed it to bad debt/collections/skip which wow made a difference. Now I believe it's to late to do a pay for delete. But thanks to this site I know next time to get it in writing.
Hi Debra,
Experian has its own scoring system known as VantageScore. Based on this score, they rate the consumers as 'risky'. However, which section did you exactly look for this information? I have also gone through the website and have found that it is generally a 30 time period for the source to verify the credit.
As for what you have said in the second post, you should definitely get everything in writing so that they cannot harass you in future. I think, you can still talk to the collection agency and see if there is any way you can get the negative item removed. Is the debt too old?
I found it in the dispute section when they emailed me the results of my dispute. I was blown away also because I always thought it was 30 days as well until I read that. And thanks for telling me I may still have a chance to get the charge off removed. I will send them a pay for delete letter and keep my figures crossed they will work with me. I have had a new account with them for the past 8 months in good standing maybe that will help.
