I had an account with verizon wireless deleted from my file due to the fact that they did not respond to my dispute. They sold the debt to a collection agency and now its back on my report. Can they do that?

Hello bhazlett901,

First welcome to the forum. Now since Verizon has sold your account to a collection agency they can in fact report to the credit bureaus. Any recent collection company can report. Now if that collection company sells the debt to another collection company only the new one may report. What you need to do is send them a debt validation letter to be sure they can validate the debt. Some junk debt collectors will buy debts and not get all the correct documantation to legally collect the debt.

Hi Bhazlett,

First of all, a disputed account can only be removed by a credit bureau, that too, if the information is inaccurate. A creditor cannot do that. Anyways, now that your debt account has revived and the CA is trying to collect it from you, you need to send a debt validation letter to the CA along with any written proof of the fact, that this account got deleted due to dispute by the credit bureau.

Credit reporting Agency (Trans Union Experian or Equifax) cannot legaly report back an account that was removed from your credit file after a dispute and they would be in violation to the the fair credit reporting act and to the federal trade commission guide line and many other federal and maybe states laws.. You need to send them a letter to re-dispute the account again and explain what had happen but do not tell them that the account was yours under any condition

Best luck

Sam, a CRA can resubmit a tradeline if they notify the consumer. In the above stated case, it is a new tradeline so no notice is given.

VZ wireless was the OC and the new tradeline was a CA. I hope the OP is aware the telephones have a federal SOL of two years.
