I checked my credit history and it shows some medical bills. I was told that this is illegal with the HIPA and that we as consumers are the only ones that can get them off of are credit.
So my question is how do I go about doing that?
Thats was wrong
Medical bills are like any other bills and theywill show up onyour credit report, if you donot pay them.
only way to get them off your report would be to pay them and settle the bills, just like any other bills
Hi Dawn,
Well, from your post it is not clear whether or not you have already paid the medical bills. In case you have not paid the medical bills, creditors can report it to the CRA. This does not violate the law. However, if your account is "paid in full" and still it is mentioned in the credit report, it could be counted as violation of the privacy law of HIPAA and could be contested.
You can file a Health Information Privacy Complaint in case the company has violated the HIPAA. You can send your complaint to "OCRComplaint@hhs.gov" or call at 1-866-627-7748.
It is defiantley untrue. I had a few on my record. I went down to the office of the doctor paid the bill and they did update my credit record. The one good thing about medical bills is you could make payments as low as ten dollars a month (on each bill) and this keeps them from turning them in to collections. I have had to do this with several of mine. Once I get them paid paid down so far then I pay them off.
fireyone that may nto eb true in every situation
Some fo them probably may not be nice like your hospital
