I didn't even know that I could have debt / collections removed from my credit report until reading this website, but unfortunately I paid off in full 6 different accounts with 6 different Collection Agencies last week. Without sending any letters to them first.
And if it's not possible, what happens? Do the negative collection accounts stay on my credit report for 5 more years? (Oregon)
Hello sean, Yes these accounts will remain on your credit report until the seven year reporting fee has passed. Each account could vary at the fall off date. If you pull up your credit report you should see a couple different things. 1. when you first defaulted on the payment (you could count 7 years from that date) or most will have the date of fall off listed. an account defaulted on, in say, 2004 will generally fall off in 2011. When you make a payment the fall off date does not change you just reset the SOL on collecting the debt.
Hi seandobgondo,
Yes, you can get the collection/debts removed from your credit report. Unfortunately you did not know that. However, now that you know it, I hope you will not make the mistake ever again. In case you default on any debt, then the negative item remains for 7 years on your credit report before it gets removed.
Hi seandobgondo
I am afraid this will stay on your report and will be removed only when it is time to since you did not request the creditor to get them removed. However, one positive point is that your report should reflect this as 'paid in full'. Pull out your credit report and check for accuracy.
