My husband has a cell phone account with Verizon that is NOT HIS!!! I have sent his info and they continue to say that this account is his. I sent the credit bureaus and the CA a validation request and now after more than 60 days, I just received a letter for Verizon stating " THIS LETTER VALIDATED THE DEBT YOU OWE TO VERIZON WIRELESS. OUR RECORD SHOW THAT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE AND THIS ACCT WAS WRITTEN OFF ON 9/18/2008. aLTHOUGH WE ARE ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO PROVIDE COPIES OF STATEMENTS FOR THIS ACCOUNT. WE WILL, UPON REQUEST, PROVIDE THEM TO YOU WITHIN A RESONABLE TIME FRAME. " My question is what do I do know, they are stalling and have sent me stacks of invoices but I dont belive this validates the account, right? What is my next step? This in only account that is negative on my husbands credit report, this is really frustrating!!!! Can you send me a response quickly, PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

looks like your husband may be victim.Looks like some one stole his identity and opned a account in his name.
First thing you need to do is find out the detisl from Verizon, when and who opened this and also start to see if you can get this correced soon
Hi Ruth
Send CA a request for details of the debt. Ask them to provide you copies of the documents where Verizon has transferred or sold the account to them.
The most important thing that you need to do is inform the fraud department of the 3 credit reporting companies. This fraud alert would mean that your file will be flagged and they would ask you before extending any credit to your account. The new FCRA provisions state that you can initiate a fraud alert for only 90 days. You will then receive a notice of your rights as a victim of fraud mailed to you. Once you have them you can send the CB a request for a copy of your CR and also request them to extend your fraud alert from 90 days to 7 years.
Try turning the account over to your states attorney generals office, they are very powerful when it comes to settling these kinds of issues.
We are going through a similar thing with AT&T/Cingular account, we have never had an account with either of these companies and now we have a collection agency trying to collect on it. It is very frustrating, but stand your ground.
Have you disputed it on his report? what do the credit reporting agencies say about it.
reporting fraud and stopping CA harassment
Hi Ruth,
The letter that they have sent you does not prove anything. The collection agency must provide documents to proof that they have been sold the account by Verizon. Hence, the CA must provide your credit history and a copy of the original contract. If the CA is unable to provide these documents, it means that this is an example of fraud. The CA is framing you to pay the debts which do not belong to you. They have made a breach of the FCRA. You can definitely file a complaint against the CA to the State Attorney General. You will get guidance on the rest of the procedure from there.
All the Best :-)
