Lifelock

Has anyone ever used lifelock or a similar product? My husband sees that they are on the Nascar circuit now and he is questioning if they would be worth it. I think not, I think that you can keep an eye on your own stuff, but wanted to see what you guys thought about this company or one that does similar work?

That is nice that they sent you a coupon, wasn't that wise fo them, nothing like promoting a sale through the old coupon gimmick.

You will forever get coupons now and sells papers. It is their way of luring you in. I built up quite the debt by using those coupons as a reason to go to the store or stop in while I was in town. I have really taught myself a little self control since those days. I haven't been there since my car broke down and my old boss flagged me down to try and help. What was worse is when I worked there. You could see all the latest stuff and mark downs. Or if there was not much business that evening the only thing you had to do was look around. I liked the job but relized it was only causing me more bills so I quit and gave another reason instead of that.

I see, so it would be like an alcoholic working in a liquor store. I imagine that they did not pay well, probably minimum wage and then you shopped on top of that. I can see why it was not worth it.

I won't make a special trip in town, but I work in town every day, I will go into the store one of these days but I am honestly not real big on clothes shopping.

fireyone,
Are you addicted to shopping or was it because it was right there in your face?

At first I think it was not ever having the "right" clothes growing up that even lured me to apply for a job. We were raised by my father who was disabled with one arm. Funds were usually really tight and we were lucky to see more than three outfits a year plus a pair of cheap shoes. He never really understood these kinds of fitting in things.
When I got out on my own things were not much better but later on when I could afford a vehicle to go to work..it was at Fashion Bug. You had a dress code which I wasn't informed of until after I was hired and realized I really didn't have the clothes so that started my credit card.
I started realizing there was a problem when I would put away the seasons clothes and have several with tags still on them.
In the end I aquired way more debt than I ever made there and after a summer of working myself into the ground at another job to just pay it down and not off, I thought ,this isn;t worth it and quit my job there. I don't go in very often at all but now it is because my daughter always wants everything and I still haven't got the bill paid.

I hear you, I do that if I have coupons, I will buy something that I don't need just because I have a coupon for it.

I use to use coupons alot. Always went an d made a trip to get the Sundays paper. Now they do not put them in there like they use to. I remember reading in the Gazette the reason why but I forgot what was written. The papers theirselves was upset with this as I imagine the customers were too.
They really did help save money. I remember when there would be books of coupons. I wonder where they send there coupons to now that they do n ot use newspapers?

I have made two payments so far, so I am figuring that they definately report to the credit reporting agencies right? It should be helping me build my credit back up. Besides I keep getting all these great coupons and I have to use them. Keeping this balance under $100 though.

yes it should definatley be helping you build your credit. I like the way you are careful about your balance. You are much wiser than I was when I first got this card. The coup;ons were always a good reason for me to buy something and I always had that 40% discount as an employee...didn't take long for the debt to pile up. I have gotten it down really far and don't even go intop the store to make payments as I use to...I send them.,..Much safer for me.

I swore that I would never get another card, then this one just happened, I think the best thing about it is the low credit amount, it will be easy for me to handle.

The coupons are exactly as you say, when I get one I want to run into the store, lol. But I am going to start paying the bill online instead of going to the store to pay.

Just watch though Gn. with in a few months of making good payments they will raise the credit limits. I believe I had mone for three or four months and they doubled it. They also try to get you to part of the premiere club for $25 dollars a year. This gets you lots of coupons and special after hour sells. I am part of it and now that I just reminded myself I need to call and cancel it. It was worth it when I shopped there alot but like I said I have been really avoidubg going in there...way to easy. Oh with that club you also get $10 off every $100 you spend. They send you a rebate for in store use only. Pretty much is just like a coupon.

I did go to the premier membership and did get coupons, I am still going to try and keep it at the $100 or below mark, this is a credit builder for me.

Yes it really will be. If you plan on shopping their alot it is worth it. Not only that I can almost bet it will not take long for you to get a credit line increase by upgrading your card. This could have been a very wise move on your part. If they see you are really interested in staying a part of their store and will pay the extra to become a member they will be confident to do increases annually or semi annually. Thats great news for you.

I paid my bill online this time, think it will be a few months before I go back into the store, to tempting to purchase what I don't need.

Tue, 12/02/2008 - 04:43 Permalink

Thats what I do..usually I mail it even if I go by..too easy to see a must have. I see you pay your bill online..I have often thought about that but am just not ready to take the plunge. I worry because I see so much ID fraud and how hackers are always figuring out new ways to break through computer systems. One time and they can ruin your credit for good. I knw there are veri signed pages..What protection do those type of pages offer? Do they give you some type of insurance that if you use their site that you are covered if anything happens?

Tue, 12/02/2008 - 13:55 Permalink

I use my banking website, I do believe it is insured and is very secure, they are constantly keeping up to date with the latest online security. So I am not too worried about it.

Sun, 12/07/2008 - 20:33 Permalink

I also check my bank account online but not very often. I mostly use the statements or the phone system at the bank to make sure my account balances. I know if they say its a secure site and it has the been verisigned your money is suppose to be protected.

Exactly what I would have said GN. Sometimes I can see how people can ghet confused, there is just so much to learn when it comes to protecting your credit these days.

I would take a look at a w's(DOT)OptOutDetectives(DOT)com They pretty much have just revealed the pitfalls with companies like lifelock and Todd Davis. Check out the blog they wrote about todd davis at myspace(dot)com(/)optoutdetectives

It's pretty good info

Thanks for the link. I am always suspicious of any company until they have enough good "word of mouth". I will check out the link.

I used Opt Out Detectives. My credit is frozen, my personal info is off the internet search engines and I get NO junk mail or offers of credit. I also don't have a monthly payment and I have all my passwords.

Barry, How did you get your personal info off the internet? I recently heard of a new website called Bing and when I seen a person put their name in the search engine I was amazed at the amount of personal info that it had brought up. I remember a long time ago getting my personal info off of Google but I am unsure of how I did it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
